Friends Against Scams
Here at Citizens Advice Epsom & Ewell we work with others to alert our residents to the horrible crimes everyone calls ‘scams’.
Our national Citizens Advice operates a Scams Action helpline on 0808 250 5050 and has online advice about scams from every angle. We also keep in touch with scams reporting and recording centre Action Fraud.
Locally it’s Friends Against Scams a Trading Standards project hosted by Surrey County Council. They aim ‘to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by empowering people to take a stand against scams‘. So do we!
Last week we joined one of their free online groups organised by Surrey Trading Standards. They described the 4 main types of scams – doorstep, postal, telephone and online – with examples of each. They had also invited a representative of Thames Valley Police who spoke about online crime and fraud linked to occasions such as Mother’s Day (Sunday 27 March).
Definitely a well-spent hour!
