Energy Support Adviser

Energy Support Adviser

Our Energy Support Advisers will help clients with advice and information about energy bills and energy efficiency.  They will give advice to fuel poor and vulnerable consumers who are struggling to pay their bills or require better deals on energy.  This help could either be given over the phone or face to face.

Some examples of what you could do:

  • Give guidance on the most appropriate payment methods
  • Explaining supplier and tariff options, including time of use awareness
  • Provide information about how to access help from energy suppliers and the Government
  • Give information about Smart Meters
  • Explain bills
  • Give advice about Energy debts
  • Give advice about how to use energy efficiently – including energy efficient appliances and tips to reduce energy consumption
  • Where appropriate, seek crisis funding for clients unable to pay their bills

Specific qualifications or experience are not required to be an Energy Support Adviser.

You need to:

  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • have good listening skills
  • be friendly and approachable
  • have a good manner when talking to people, both face to face and on the phone
  • have basic maths and IT skills
  • be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
  • enjoy helping people
  • be able to understand information and explain it to others
  • be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
  • be willing to undertake training in your role

Full training is provided as well as ongoing support and supervision
