Making our voices heard: looking back on a momentous year

As the year draws to a close, we reflect on the impact we have achieved on behalf of clients. 2025 has been a momentous year for Research and Campaigns.

Victoria Wan

Throughout the last twelve months, our publications have shone a light on the real problems our clients face. With colleagues across the country we have ensured clients’ voices are heard at the highest levels.

Energy

With energy costs remaining a primary concern, we focused on empowering residents with knowledge. We offered practical advice on managing winter bills. Beyond costs, we focused on safety and accessibility; awareness of carbon monoxide risks; and ensuring vulnerable clients knew how to get essential extra support though the Priority Services Register.

Cost of living

Pressure on household budgets has been relentless all year. In response, we advocated for a better social tariff. We believe this a crucial step to relieve bill worries and ensure essential services remain affordable for everyone regardless of income.

Housing

It has been a momentous year for for housing policy, perhaps above all issues. The Renters’ Rights Act has become law but there are many problems outstanding.

Housing insecurity remains a critical issue in our borough. We worked to expose disrepair in social homes; to draw attention to the widening shortfall in housing benefits; and to illustrate how the gap between support and actual rents is pushing families into poverty.

Our community is our strength

None of this research would be possible without our frontline staff and volunteers or our clients. Their first-hand experiences and insights are the fuel for our campaigns.

By capturing these stories, we can identify pressing issues and analyse trends grounded in real-life experiences. This enables us to provide concrete evidence for advocacy and lobby the council for meaningful changes based on facts, not assumptions.

Looking ahead

Our focus for next year is sharpened by the recent Autumn Budget. Our aspiration remains clear: we will continue to speak up for those who go unheard. We look forward to working closely with our clients, the council and local stakeholders to drive positive change in our borough.

Wishing you all a happy new year.
