How the humanity of a Citizens Advice colleague ‘deeply impressed’ one of our trustees

Simon Culhane was ‘deeply impressed’ on hearing CAEE Assessor win the trust and confidence of a particularly vulnerable client. Helping such unhappy people is the true value of Citizens Advice in our community.

As a Trustee, I think it’s critical that I understand the activities and pressures experienced by colleagues who are seeing and meeting clients on a daily basis.
Recently I was fortunate to be able to observe one of our assessors meeting a client who was having a tough time, both emotionally and physically.
I was deeply impressed by how Jane encouraged him to speak freely about his problems. Her reassuring manner and supportive words encouraged him to share details of his situation, including emotional and physical issues.
This individual was extremely vulnerable and needed special help, advice and support. Which is just where the highly skilled and trained advisers at Citizens Advice excel.
Jane’s non-judgmental approach provided hope, reassurance, practical advice and comfort, as well as setting him up to meet other specialist advisers.
It made me realise the true value Citizens Advice provides to the most vulnerable in our society. And how fortunate Epsom and Ewell is to have such excellent, professional and committed volunteers.
