Energy bills support information
The government has published a guide to the Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS). It shows how the scheme will work and how people will get support.
People will receive a £400 non-repayable energy payment in 6 instalments. There will be an automatic discount on household electricity bills on a monthly basis starting in October.
No one will ever ask for bank details in connection with the EBSS payments. Anyone who has worries about this can check our advice on scams.

Latest forecasts of even higher energy bills make frightening reading. The government’s support package is very welcome. But there is growing agreement that it will need to do more to prevent widespread hardship in the months ahead.
