Just One Thing? Michael Mosley gave us so many

Just One Thing, the radio series, was just one way of enhancing health and happiness Michael Mosley gave readers, viewers and listeners. A natural friendly manner and believable enthusiasm made him welcome in millions of ordinary lives.

No wonder there has been an outpouring of sadness at news of his death.

By good design the Radio 4 producers scheduled Just One Thing – Volunteer on the eve of Volunteers’ Week 2024. This is a time we celebrate the volunteers who give time and talent to helping local people.

We began the Week by recommending friends and followers listen to the programme. Michael encourages a participant – a lapsed volunteer with mental health issues – to try again; this time with the prospect of improving his health and wellbeing as well as the lives of others.

Sincerity

It’s definitely worth a listen. Conclusion, with characteristic emphasis on sincerity: “Giving out of the goodness of your heart….can lift your mood, help your heart and help others.” So clear, so helpful, so Michael Mosley.

For Volunteers’ Week we shared the experience of four colleagues, their opportunities and challenges. The value of their work to the community is beyond doubt. But so too it seems is the value to themselves.

We’re sure Michael would be pleased.
