Bringing a new perspective: Nikki’s story
It’s Volunteers’ Week 2026, time to thank our dedicated team of 60+ volunteers for all their support. In this series, we highlight a few of our volunteers….
As a young Trustee, Nikki brings a new perspective to our Board
Nikki is our Company Secretary and sits on our Board of Trustees, and has been with us since September 2025. She is a law graduate, currently working as a paralegal for a large finance company and is working towards her legal qualification.
As the only trustee under 30, Nikki brings a different perspective to the Board meetings. She says, “I try my best to bring innovative ideas, especially concerning technology, a new perspective to existing issues (from someone at the beginning of their career who probably has different ways of working), and a smile!”

Nikki decided to pursue a legal career following her personal experience of how understanding her rights and the opportunities available to her could change her life. She says, “Citizens Advice enables people to access free, extensive and detailed advice on issues and problems that otherwise they may not have access to. That facilitation of public understanding is what attracted me to volunteer at Citizens Advice in particular.”
Nikki says she has learnt so much that is applicable to her legal career. For example, the way boards must run, the importance of accountability of trustees, and how consequential decisions of the board can be. “Whilst very different in theory, charities bear a lot of similarities in terms of structure to companies. I am learning so much about the actualities of commercial law from this experience.”
“It is a commitment most definitely, but if it is one that you are willing to make, I cannot imagine that you will regret it. ”
There are so many transferable skills to be learnt, extremely knowledgeable people that you will meet, it will instil you with discipline and time management skills, and give you a chance to give back.”
“As a former student myself, I would highly recommend volunteering at Citizens Advice for anyone looking to increase their skill set.”
